Take Time Out for You

Updated: Aug 7, 2021

I went to a seminar about caregivers, and one of the discussion points was about people not taking time out for themselves when caring for others because they feel it’s selfish to do so. On the contrary, it’s not selfish to rejuvenate yourself and plan for your health and wellness because it makes you available and able to help people in need such as loved ones who need care.

I like to use the scenario that is presented to us when we take an airplane: “You must put the oxygen mask on yourself first before assisting others.” It’s necessary to think of yourself in terms of your health and wellness because if you don’t then the people who need you wouldn’t be able to depend on you especially if you’re not well.

There are many situations in life that can coax you into taking on many tasks that can be overwhelming. However, involving yourself in too much can be as toxic for your health as taking poison. We involve ourselves in the life of our families, work, volunteer activities, extracurricular activities, etc. What about your health and wellness? What about your wants, needs, and desires? For the sake of your health, take a moment to figure out what your wants, needs, and desires are.

In keeping everything in perspective, we should realize that we are as important as everything and everyone else around us. So, take some time to do something fulfilling for you. Take time out for you!

Live, laugh, love, and pray.

God Bless You with Good Health and Wellness,

Antoinette
