It takes a lot of patience to be patient, doesn’t it? The saying “patience is a virtue” can be applied to all of our lives. When we want something, we want it now. Having to wait in anticipation for things is definitely not easy. However, being patient teaches us to slow down and think about things thoroughly and allow God to do things in his time.
Being patient also teaches us to be loving and kind toward one another, and there are times when you have to dig deep within to show another person that you have patience. For example: when you’re driving, and the person in front of you is driving extra slow particularly when you have somewhere you need to be is so annoying. That can be very frustrating, but you have to be patient with the slow driving person. After all, the person driving in front of you could be your grandparent. But alas, you think to yourself “I hope they turn at the next intersection” (so you don’t blow your cool). If they don’t turn, you have to exercise a lot of self-control and not do anything viewed as unkind or even dangerous behavior.
Being patient teaches us that if we wait just a little while longer, we will see the rewards for our patience and be blessed for that. Things do not always happen in our time as many of us can attest to. It is truly a magnificent thing to be grounded in patience. Not to mention it takes great faith to be patient.
When you’re waiting for something to occur, you have to believe that what ever you are waiting for will come to pass when it’s supposed to happen and that’s when faith shows up. This is also contingent upon God’s will, of course. Life is full of many surprises and adventures. Some of those adventures and surprises take you on “highs” and some of those adventures and surprises take you on “lows.” Many of those highs and lows provide us with moments where we have to be patient and wait for things to happen in the time that they are supposed to happen.
I went to a conference recently and a workshop I attended on dealing with stress was helpful in teaching us how to get through situations that can try your patience. So this exercise may help you when you feel your patience is being tested. Close your eyes and breathe in through your nose deeply. Hold it for a few seconds and then breathe out of your mouth slowly.
Perhaps doing this exercise a few times will help you to relax and become more patient in trying situations. In the end, being patient is the best way to handle a difficult situation. After all, it’s about everything in God’s time, right? Stay true to yourself and the mission placed before you, and you will see that being patient is the best way to handle many of life’s situations.
Live, laugh, love, and pray.
God Bless You with Good Health and Wellness,
Antoinette
